Dear Portfolio Committee on Police,

I am sounding the alarm over the escalating crime crisis in Orange Farm, with a focus on Poortjie and Kanana Park. The recent Gauteng Police Crime statistics reveal a disturbing 91.7% increase in murders for Orange Farm, recording sixty-nine cases between October and December 2024, making it the highest number of murder cases in Gauteng during that period.

In response to this dire situation, I on behalf of the residents wrote to the Gauteng Premier and the Minister of Police, requesting police visibility as well as a satellite police station for Poortjie and Kanana Park to address the rampant crime.

Furthermore, we have created a petition that will be submitted to the National Assembly. The petition reinforces our collective demand for safer communities and holding authorities accountable for ensuring public safety.
In addition, I invited MPLs and MPs for an oversight at the Orange Farm Police Station which services both these areas to find out what resources the police need to increase visibility. The station currently has a mobile truck, which could help in the interim. However, they do not have enough officers, and their lack of adequate infrastructure has resulted in dockets stored in holding cells. According to our observation, it is clear that this station needs more resources for it to function optimally and be able to cover the vast geographical area that is Orange Farm.

I look forward to your response and also available should you require additional information, thank you.
