Dear Portfolio Committee on Electricity and Energy,
I the Ward Committee responsible for Energy and Electricity write on behalf of residents Unit D, as writing to express concerns of residents regarding the ongoing load reduction in their area. While they understand the need to manage electricity demand, they strongly object to the blanket approach being taken, which unfairly punishes all residents without addressing the root causes of the problem.
As their main concern is that Unit D does not appear on the provincial schedule of Gauteng for load reduction. They request clarity on why they're area has not been included in the load reduction schedule despite not being listed.
Furthermore, they urge Eskom to take proactive measures to deal with illegal connections in our area, which they believe are a significant contributor to the electricity demand challenges. Rather than imposing a blanket punishment on all residents, they request that Eskom:
1. Conduct a thorough investigation to identify and address illegal connections.
2. Implement targeted measures to prevent future illegal connections.
3. Engage with the community to raise awareness about the risks and consequences of illegal connections.
They believe that a more nuanced and targeted approach will not only alleviate the burden on law-abiding residents but also help to address the underlying issues driving electricity demand.
I look forward to a prompt response and resolution to this matter.
Sincerely,
Daniel Seodisa
Ward Committee heading Portfolio of Energy and Electricity in Ward 75 City of Tshwane Region 2
