Dear Portfolio Committee on Police,

I think it is disgusting that you want to take away people right to protect themselves and their loved ones in country plagued by violent crimes like home invasions, hijackings and murder.
This is simply ill-informed and only serves to make criminals more brazen if they know civilians aren't armed. I would deduce that it would in fact be increasing knife crimes as well for the same reason (i.e. knowing that no civilian is armed).

If you want to consider a move like this then you should first get crime levels down to reasonable levels and introduce measures that would deter violent criminals like reinstating the death penalty. Without this balance you are simply making the situation worse as there are already so many illegal firearms in circulation. Energy would be better spent ensuring compliance with existing laws and strengthening the licensing process.
