Dear Portfolio Committee on Small Business Development,

I kindly request your understanding as I detail my challenges as a small business owner and an active economic participant within South Africa.

Over the past four years, I have dealt with SEFA in my capacity as a director of my organization. I have submitted an application via online platforms, specifically for a project under "TREP" for SEFA, particularly since the onset of COVID-19.

I wish to highlight the following challenges:

Lengthy Process: The extended duration of the application process.

Non-Communication: Lack of clear and consistent communication.

Reception at SEFA Centers: The welcome reception upon visiting SEFA centers.

My application has been approved twice, consecutively in two financial years. Yet, no payment has been made to suppliers to date. I believe it is critical for SMEs with approved loans to be prioritized, as this could contribute to their growth, aid in other projects, create job opportunities, and boost our economy. Unfortunately, the lengthy process at SEFA deprives many SMEs of these opportunities.

I understand that South African entrepreneurship is growing rapidly, and the volume of applications processed daily might be overwhelming. However, it is essential to address these issues to support and sustain SMEs effectively.

Although there is much more I could say, I will conclude my message here.

Regards,
LT Diale
