Dear Portfolio Committee on Justice and Correctional Services, I would like to know if you are aware of the fact that millions were spend on the above subject matter but these systems are now nothing but white elephants.
The nation was told by Old President Zuma that the SIU will investigate see news article - https://citizen.co.za/news/south-africa/1611070/zuma-orders-siu-to-investigate-correctional-services-idt/ and https://www.news24.com/SouthAfrica/News/prisons-tenders-ballooning-costs-under-the-microscope-in-siu-probe-20190523.
The sad part of this whole matter is that hard working people lost their jobs even though billions has been spend to have these systems installed. What's more worrying is that these systems are now nothing but white elephants and if the department would want to use it, it more likely will have to be replaced/upgraded by spending more money.
Fruitless and wasteful expenditure is such a big problem in our public administration but it seems like nothing can be done about it because the mentality is "it's not my money" and the excuse for it "it's a collective decision" which means no one is held accountable.
I would like to know from you the committee what you're going to do about these systems.
Regards,
Unemployed Concerned Citizen
