Dear Portfolio Committee on Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs,
I write this with a heavy heart and disappointment as an active resident of Emfuleni Local Municipality. I wish to draw your attention to what is happening in Emfuleni Local Municipality. There is little or no service delivery, rampant corruption, lack of accountability and absolute no regard for the rule of law.
I was invited to attend an MPAC Committee sitting about a few weeks ago as an observer and oh my God, I am flabbergasted by what I had to listen to. Those that are entrusted with safeguarding our resources are entangled in the mess that the municipality finds itself in.
It safe to say that the provincial government has failed us and continues to enjoy seeing us as residents vulnerable and hopeless. I am writing to this committee to highlight our plights but not only that, but also the fact that it will take us citizens of this municipality to fix our issues that noone seems to care about. This Maladministration has been happening for years with zero accountability and as citizens we are fed up.
In 2018 I once attended an NCOP Committee meeting held at Mafatsane in Evaton where there was a discussion to put the municipality under administration or dissolution. I was for the dissolution of this municipality as there was no use for administration or semi administration as that has had no impact in the previous years.
I urge this committee to put the citizens first by not waiting for things to get out of hand. We are sick and tired by comrades who continue looting and loading their pockets with state coffers and leave citizens hopeless.
This letter serves as a cry for intervention and plea for COGTA to exercise the necessary oversight over our municipalities. Officials must account! Criminals must be arrested and services must be restored to the residents of Emfuleni.
Yours in community development
Mr Tshepo Vincent Sechele
