Dear Portfolio Committee on Social Development
I am Mzingisi Tuswa an adult male of 57 years of age residing in the Eastern Cape at Komani.
I have since June 2024 been declined from accessing the SRD grant based on the allegation that I am funded by NSFAS or that the means of income have been identified. My funding by NSFAS was withdrawn as from the 23rd of May 2024 and according to my knowledge Sassa checks the income of every beneficiary on a monthly basis.
Despite there not being any reflecting in my bank statements Sassa officials keep declining my eligibility to access the grant. I recently visited the Social Development offices to request food parcels from social workers and I was told they will only be available in December. Early in this month of May I requested assistance from friends and some family members to assist me with UNIVERSITY application fees but Sassa flagged that as an income and stopped the provision that they only made in April after the string of rejections since June 2024.
I humbly request your intervention in this matter as I am struggling to access food despite the fact that I am on chronic medication.
