- NON RECOGNITION FOR EDUCATORS WITH NON TEACHING EXPERIENCE

Dear Portfolio Committee on Basic Education,
Kindly note that I am an Educator for 9 years now and was employed within the insurance industry for 13 years, because I could not get a teaching position. Within the insurance sector I worked for various companies and my last company was trucking insurer, specifically dealing with heavy haulage as most of my clients were within the SADAC region,
I have an insurance qualification other than that of teaching. My challenge is that I am not recognized by DBE for it. I have updated my qualification numerous times and it reflects Matric + 4 years teaching training.
As an Educator the private sector experience assisted me with executing my job as an educator and delivering curriculum. I approached SACE and the DPSA to no avail, as there appears to be no legal framework to address same. The information I tried to obtain was scattered and does not address my issue.
In my opinion the experience gained is evident as a PL01 Educator, I assist SMT easily with management of School as it is not difficult operationally to utilize the existing experience. The Public Service Commission advised me to lodge a grievance, but I am of the opinion it is harsh without a legal base. The union could not assist me either.
Thank you for the attention my request will receive.
Regards
