Dear Portfolio Committee on Employment and Labour,I applied for maternity benefits in April 2022 at the Sandton Labour Dept. and all the documents required were confirmed to be in order
The guy who assisted me told me my application would take 6 weeks and I should go back to the dept. if its not in by then . I went after 6 weeks and I was told that my passport barcode wasn’t clear. I then submitted a new copy and I was told to check again after 2 weeks. I went after a month only to be told that a profile has not been created,
I have a valid spousal work permitted that is valid for 3 years and its almost 5 full months now since I submitted my application with no luck .

During my leave I borrowed money from people promising to pay them back when I get the uif money which I thought was going to take 6 weeks as promised but up until today I am still waiting . The Sandton dpt says they are waiting for Zandile who is at the Braamfontein dpt to create a profile .

This is time consuming, it drains us as consumers mentally! I had to borrow money which I'm still having consequences (accounts paid late, interest added, etc.) all because UIF department cannot fulfil their duties to tax payers

I hope my plea does not fall on blind eyes nor deaf ears, but UIF need to start providing us with better services and answer.


I would really appreciate your assistance regarding this matter
