Dear Portfolio Committee on Correctional Services,
I hope this letter finds you well. first and foremost I would like to commend the honorable minister and Department of Correctional for their commendable efforts in addressing the backlog of cases involving lifers. However, I write to express my concern regarding the process of further profiling of many long-term offenders particularly those who have been incarcerated for more than 20 years. Many of these offenders have been subjected to multiple submissions for profiling including 2nd and 3rd round of evaluations. previously it took up to 4 years to receive feedback on these same profiles causing further delays and distress, many of the further profiles seem to complete programs they have already undertaken. This redundancy not only prolongs the review process but also unfairly impacts their chances of parole. Given the extended time, these individuals have served and demonstrated efforts towards rehabilitation. It is essential to approach these cases with a fresh perspective. It is my humble request that the Portfolio Committee conduct a thorough review of these profile processes for these individuals. it is important to ensure that to avoid duplicate program requirements and acknowledge completion of the necessary programs.. To provide timely feedback to minimize undue delays.feedbacks
Many of these offenders have shown a genuine commitment to change and deserve the opportunity for reintegration into society,. A second change could not only change their lives but also serve as a testament to the Department of Correctional Services' belief in the power of rehabilitation.
I trust that this matter will receive attention, ensuring that the principles of justice and fairness are upheld.
Regards
