Dear Portfolio Committee on Basic Education,
My son ten(10) years of age is a grade 4 learner at Eden Park primary school, I have learned early this year that he is taking undesirable substances at school, I went to school to engage the principal about the issue and for the issue to be given full attention and the principal promised that they will investigate that deeper. I even personally took my son to SANCA for testing, which i believe they aren't testing our kids there because they just said he is negative and I could see he is taking that.
There was no formal report from the school with regards to the investigation of kids taking the substances. It is still continuing and now it even involves threats to the kids. A certain individual working at the school is allegedly selling this substances to the kids at school and even at times smokes with them, and threaten them that if they talk he will kill them. My son's books has different handwriting because, he is never in the class, so other kids are writing his books for him, that was Never reported to me as a parent, his absence from the class was never reported to me.This issue need to be attended to as early as of now, we talking of a person in the school premises damaging our kids, very young as early as ten or below, their health, mentally especially, their future. If the department, the school aren't attending to this, we will be left with no choice as parents but to take the law into our own hands. We can't afford to sit back and watch a person destroying the lives of our children.
