Dear Portfolio Committee on Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development,
Can you please forward this message to the Minister of water and Sanitation.
During 2017 a Ministerial task team investigated Kakamas water User Association in the Northern Cape.
The Board is predominantly white and lack transformation.
The Minister received the Findings and Recommendations during the first term of 2018.
Even Board members who are farmers are implicated to be on the wrong side of the law.
The Findings and Recommendations within the 30 page clearly stated that the Board should dissolve.
Around 2000 I was part of the meeting/negotiations between the Department of water affairs and Forestry and the workers held on the premises of the Department of water affairs and Forestry in Kakamas in the Northern Cape.
The Department told the predominantly non white workers that their working conditions would be the same or better. Further that state housing should move away from the past and address the realities of transformation.
I find the lack of will from the Minister unacceptable as those implicated in the report became the CEO and Chairperson of Kakamas water User Association in the Northern Cape.
