Dear Portfolio Committee on Police,
Dear Portfolio Committee on Police,
i want to complement your good work as its is starting to yield results and give hope to our communities.
Gugulethu/Nyanga recetly we have new management teams and the police visibility in these areas is a breath of fresh air.
Even the atmosphere when visiting the police statios you sense a new energy and an can do, servant of the people mindset. We request you
I am suggesting that you implement the following
• Increase number of detectives(I know you working on this)
• Have police vans on all entrance/exits routes of the townships – to easily catch those who commit crime and flee
• Compartmentalize the township into small 5 manageable sections of the township
• Have dedicated drones in each of the 5 manageable sections of the township that are ready to take to the skies anytime there is a crime reported in any area of the townships
• Have dedicated police vans in each of the 5 manageable sections of the township, police vans that are constantly in that area 24/7
• Have detectives for each of 5 manageable sections of the township
1. Have a dedicated data analytics teams that works with
a. detective/ground patrol in each of in each of the 5 manageable sections of the township,
b. Station managements for realtime data reporting and monitoring of each of the 5 manageable sections of the township - use the gunspospotter system and AI CCTV fo realtime monitoring/crime prevention/crime prediction based on establishe patterns in each of the 5 manageable sections of the township,
c.
• Work with other governments departments to fund community safety patrol teams for each of the 5 manageable sections of the township 24/7
• Have CCTV AI cameras in each of the 5 manageable sections of the township – Have a data driven crime detection/prevention/predicting system that utilize best AI practices but customized for our environment in townships.
• Digitalize case/docket logging at police stations –
1. Functiona ticketng system that monitors turnaround times and updates the stakeholders of progress in crime they reported. Digital system will help police to see realtime data on where resources are needed and be able to quantify capex submissions for additional resources.
• Prioritize patrols in peak commuter hours like from 5am for those vulnerable workers walking to trains/taxi in the morning to work and same from 5pm when workers return home
iImmplement zero tolerance corruption governance systems in police stations. These zero tolerance corruption governance systems will enable the community to be comfortable to report crime without fear that they are compromizing themselves and opening themselves up for criminal rataliation due to confidential info leaking to the criminals.

Justice
