Dear Portfolio Committee on Agriculture, Land Reform and Rural Development,
This bill is unconstitutional and an infringement on the rights of citizens.
The Government will do irreparable damage to South Africa's economy with this bill.
What will happen to a bond if the land is taken without compensation? Is the previous property owner still responsible to pay? Is the loss for the bank?
There will be no more property investments. And giving someone land without having to work or pay for it is not good practice. When a person works for something then they appreciate it and care for it.
Having this said. Government should rather stop stealing billions of Rands and use the money to help previously disadvantaged citizens purchase land / property.
Or reduce the lending rate to 2% for example to allow more people to partake in the economy of South Africa.
Or provide property owners tax breaks.
There are many many many other routes that Government can pursue before having to consider legalizing stealing of land and plumbing South Africa's economy even further.
