Dear Portfolio Committee on Basic Education,
Our education sector is in dire need of transformation to meet global expectations required in our children. The results from international benchmark assessment like PISA and TIMMS casts a shadow on the education system currently maintained in South Africa, especially in Mathematics and Sciences.

I have worked in the education sector for 15 years as a teacher and Head of Department Sciences before taking up an opportunity abroad resulting in exposure to global best practices in Education. The development of our teachers is paramount for the improvement of Education in South Africa.

A second aspect that needs to be addressed is the selling of posts for appointments in schools as teachers, Heads of Departments, Deputy Principal and Principals. Discussions can be held around what can be done to reduce this and mitigate the impact it is having on the education of children and poor management of schools.
